Preventative Dentistry
Gone are the days of toothless smiles and sensitive teeth. Here at Tooth Sparkler, we specialise in preventative dentistry so that you can achieve great oral hygiene minus the stressful emergency repairs. Our customised preventative care plan is an easy and manageable way to prevent any oncoming dental issues such as tooth decay and gum disease. We take the time to find out about you and your teeth, reviewing your oral hygiene routine with every visit to ensure your customised plan works for you.
Visiting us for regular examinations and cleans also ensures early detection if any issues pop up, preventing minor problems from turning into major (and potentially expensive) ones. Our dentists recommend making your next preventative care appointment as soon as you’ve finished the last, as well as booking periodic x-rays every few years to keep everything going on under your gums in check.
Hygiene and maintenance are the two most important factors affecting your pearly whites, and when you can prevent, there is no need to cure. Combining this approach with good oral hygiene habits and a sensible diet will keep you drinking iced cold drinks on a hot summer’s day, pain-free!
Restorative Dentistry
At Tooth Sparkler, we focus on prevention rather than cure. We aim to help you keep your natural teeth intact as much as possible through good oral hygiene and regular examinations. However, sometimes our patients may need a little more help if decay or an accident has damaged their teeth. Restorative dentistry is the term we use for the various ways we can restore your teeth to their former health, beauty, and function. If you need to repair a damaged tooth, we may recommend a tooth-coloured filling, crown, inlay or onlay.
Tooth-coloured fillings
Dental fillings, or dental restorations, are a common way of repairing damaged teeth, usually following tooth decay.
We offer tooth-coloured fillings – also known as ‘white’ fillings – to give you back the functionality of your tooth as well as a beautiful smile. Tooth-coloured fillings use a strong composite bond, giving a strong but natural-looking appearance that matches the colour of your teeth. The benefits are:
- Long-term strength
- An aesthetically pleasing result
- Less sensitivity to hot and cold than other types of fillings
If there is more extensive damage to the tooth and a filling is not likely to give you enough protection, we may recommend an inlay or an onlay. We typically offer these treatments if a filling falls out in an area where the tooth receives a lot of wear and tear. A dental inlay is similar to a filling and fits inside the cusp tips or top edges of the tooth. An onlay is more extensive, extending over the cusps of the tooth being treated, and used only on back teeth.
Dental Crowns & Bridges
In cases where damage is even more extensive, a dental crown may be the best solution to restore your tooth. We would typically recommend a crown if around 40% of the tooth has been lost, for example, if a large filling has broken away or if the patient has needed root canal treatment and we need to prevent the tooth from splitting down to the root. A dental crown will help hold the tooth together and give you the same look and feel as a natural tooth. Durable and strong, it will last many years. A bridge is when we use crowns to fill the gap left by a missing tooth and anchoring it to the tooth on either side.
Gum Disease
Periodontitis, also called gum disease, is a severe gum infection that damages the soft tissue around the teeth. Without treatment, it can damage the bone that supports your teeth. In advanced stages, periodontitis can lead to sore bleeding gums, painful chewing, and even tooth loss. The main goal of treatment is to control the infection, and the type of treatment will vary, depending on the extent of the gum disease. Treatment requires that the patient keep up good daily care and hygiene at home.
